Why Bother?
by Daniel New
How many times have I heard people ask me this question, when I tell them
I would like to see them join the Constitution Party, or to get current
on their dues? Too many.
So, here's why.
- We are right. For old members, remember when you joined
the first time? And you said "Amen!" out loud, when
Howard Phillips quoted George Washington, "We must first raise a
standard to which the wise and honest may repair." That reason
was good in 1776, it was good in 1996, 2000, and it's good today.
- We can never win an election if we do not first build an
infrastructure. The Pioneer Spirit has never been a movement of the
masses, but of a few intrepid souls willing to blaze new trails and
"make straight the paths" for the more timid -- those who will
not participate until they think there is a chance to win. This is
done by organizing a county, by getting individuals to cough up that
precious $20 or $25 a year, by attending a monthly meeting, and by
reducing the State of Texas to a bite-sized chunk -- one the size of your
county. Of course the trail is lonely sometimes. But your
children are going to follow it. What will you leave
them?
- Many of your friends are watching you and your lead
carefully. When you move, they start mentally packing, but don't
appear to move on the outside. They are watching.
So...move!
- Networking. No matter what your favorite issue is, you'll
find people who agree with you at our Regional Conferences and Statewide
Rallies. Attend them, and bring a friend. These are events
where information is dispensed, old friendships pursued, new friendships
begun, and enthusiasm restored.
You need a little enthusiasm in your life. May I recommend that you
minister to your friends and family by inviting them to join the
Constitution Party? They may not have been with you on the first
few trails you helped blaze, but if your friends are pioneers, they're
just sitting around the house, bored to tears by the drivel on TV,
wishing someone would offer them a trail to blaze. There are quite
a few trails yet to blaze.
Let's roll!
